Fantasy of Lights Parade is Friday, November 25th at 7pm. Report time at the Howell High School is 5pm. Grand River is closed at 5pm - so you should be entering the M-59 way.
We are dressing up in our uniforms, packing the trailer and buses and leaving by 6pm. Please don't be late.

Students are allowed to wear stuff under their uniform to keep warm (long-johns or under-armor helps out a lot), wear simple "beanie" hats under their marching band hats as long as they are black / dark grey / dark green, and gloves (some students put hand warmers inside their gloves to help keep warm).
Students are also allowed to wear battery operated lights on themselves and their instruments as long as it doesn't interfere with them playing their instrument / their instrument's sound. This is completely optional to the student.
We are have a tradition of "FoL After Parade Soup Potluck" - show off your favorite or your / your family's super secret soup/chili recipe. Once the students return from the parade, they will get out of their uniforms and get warmed up with a variety of soups / chili and hot chocolate.
Please bring your soup and/or donations to the school no later than 5:30 p.m. Once the students leave for the parade, you will not be able to enter the school until they return at approximately 8 or 8:30 p.m. Thank you so much for helping!!! SO MUCH THANKS TO THE BOOSTERS THAT CLEANED MY BAND ROOM!!!!
Hello everyone,
As some of you may know, we have had some problems with the new janitorial service getting online. Fortunately, we have ABSOLUTELY wonderful band boosters and students who helped bridge the gap yesterday night. I can't begin to tell you how much it means to me that you folks helped make the place a cleaner and more appealing place to work and learn.
Special thanks to the people that helped!
Al and Wendy Smith
Laura Allegoet
Kari and Alaina Pitera
Dean and Mikayla Norton
Tim MacDonald
Pat Creed
Gina, Don, and Christine Coon
Shannone and Chad Bondie
Monica Hacker
Tawnya Benn
Kathe Wenzel
Lisa Grager
and anyone else I might have forgotten.
Speaking of which, Stacey Miller has been coming in quite alot, along with Laura Allegoet helping with library and copying duties.
A whole slew of people have helped with uniforms (If someone could get me their names I will put out a nice post for them)
Tailgates!!! Same thing
Equipment Moms and Dads! Oh My!
I am always so humbled by the time that people take out of their busy lives to involve themselves in my program. I really feel like we do good things for the community and most importantly, for the kids in the program.
Band kids are good kids. They grow up into great people. They support the arts. They become productive, happier citizens. Many of them keep music in their lives. I am grateful for my job and for the people I work with.
Thanks again,
-Smigell

Mr. Smigell will be at the game the whole time. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Novi (ask if you need a ride - Smigell will help you find a ride with another student (don't be afraid to ask)). Be sure to bring home your instrument Friday after school - there will be no way to get into the band room Friday evening (and remember to bring them back to school on Monday). Two big deadlines coming up PLEASE READ!
Hello everyone! This post will edited when a little more information is compiled. I wanted to make sure people knew about two important deadlines that are fast approaching.
#1. EMU Clinic Day
http://www.emich.edu/musicdance/ensembles/bands/index.php
This is the link to the online form to register for EMU clinic day. We have sent many kids to this in the past and they have learned tons. Kids also have an opportunity if they wish to participate in the EMU honors band. Why do EMU clinic day you ask? It is an easy and early event to attend that counts toward each an HHS band student's ENRICHMENT PROJECT (every student has to complete one. There are many ways to do so, more info on that very very soon). It does cost money. Information is available at the link. THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP IS THIS SATURDAY. The event itself takes place 11/12/2016.
#2. MSBOA Solo and ensemble.
The deadline to sign up for solo and ensemble is Monday (Halloween). The money is due by Tuesday, 11/1/2016.
Solo $10
Duet $18 (for both not apiece)
Trios, quartets etc.... $8 per kid
THE ACTUAL EVENT IS HELD IN BRIGHTON ON JANUARY 13th and 14th, 2016.
Solo and ensemble also fulfills the HHS Bands Enrichment Project.
More info to come, but I wanted to get these dates out there.

UofM Hockey Band
Report time is now 4:45pm at HHS due to Saturday being the Homecoming for football and a volleyball game around the same time of the hockey game - so sharing of the parking. We want to get there early enough to find a spot in time for the game.
Attire:
Smigell has mentioned this a few times but there has been some confusion.
Students are to wear neutral or UofM school colors to the game. This includes black, grey, white, blue, gold and yellow. They can wear either jeans or pants (no holes/stains and presentable please) and a long / short sleeved shirt (most students wear jeans and a long sleeved shirt cause they get chilly).
The rivals colors are black / gold / silver - so the more blue you have on, the better.
No UofM rival gear - which includes (but is not limited to) MSU / OSU / Norte Dame / etc. This is a UofM gig - if a student isn't able to represent UofM then this gig isn't for them (they won't be able to get access). (I am a MSU grad and will be showing up in black pants and a blue / gold shirt).
Each student will get a UofM band t-shirt - but it will be at the game once we get our instruments in our area. The shirts will be handed out with the meal (or meal pass) the UofM staff members gives us.
Each student must have a permission slip signed and handed in, in order to go. This includes the students who have their parents coming to chaperone. Permission slips have been handed out and is posted in the blog post made earlier this week (I'm posting this on my phone so I can't do that fancy linking like I do on my computer in IL).

HHS Mega BlogPost
Yes - there IS marching band practice tomorrow after school (Weds, Oct 19th). They will be practicing getting on and off the stage and volume control of the songs.
First Band Concert:
Wednesday, October 19th at 7pm in the HHS / Rod Bushey Auditorium. The concert will show all the concert ensembles, including the marching band.
Dress Code: "Dress nicely". This means NO TSHIRTS, SWEATSHIRTS/PANTS, JEANS, OR TENNIS SHOES. Obviously this also means that all clothing needs to be school appropriate as well. Gentlemen - a nice shirt and tie with slacks or khakis will do. Ladies - a nice blouse or sweater with a skirt or slacks put you in the clear. You will be changing into your uniform during the concert after you perform if you are in marching band, so bring your marching uniform (the season's black, fitness / pj shorts, all black socks and all black shoes).
Report Time For All: 6:30pm - Show up already in your nice outfit. :)
We need parents to come help with the uniforms - the more the merrier, so they can get in and out of them at a decent rate. They need to be passed out to the students before the concert and collected after the concert. If you can help out, come to the uniform closet in the band room before / after the concert. :) Contact Christyne MacDermaid at (734) 476-0312 if you can help out / have any questions.
First Concert Basket Raffle:
Every first concert we do an Annual Basket Raffle when the students are changing into their Marching Band uniform. Super fun, cool baskets and it helps raise money for our program!

Purchase your tickets and enter the raffle from 6:30-7:00ish - while waiting for the concert to begin.
Mr. Smigell will be announcing winners during the stage clearing before the marching band performance.
We’re also doing something different this year. We’re featuring tailgate baskets for both MSU and U of M. We’ll tally the team with the most tickets and announce both the winning team and the basket winner.

Good Luck on Friday! Remember to drink lots of water all week to prepare for a busy day!

P.S.
Not HHS Band related, but band related - and an interesting / educational view of how much work students put into a show (even though they are hardcore about it :) )
DCI (Which is basically hard-core all summer long competition Marching Band) is getting a TV Show called "Clash of the Corps" on FUSE. Next Wednesday, October 5th @11pm is the premiere episode. I know it's kinda late - but good news! All episodes will be available on their website online too!
Here is the link to their website.

Pep Band and Help Needed Tonight, Plus More Info
Sorry this is late but here is the info about tonight.
Help Needed:
Smigell needs some help cleaning and organizing the band room after school today. It should take a hr - two hrs max. Any help is appreciated!
Pep Band Tonight - Friday, September, 23rd
When: Tonight - Sept 23 @6:30pm - End (~9pm unless a shut out, weather, time outs, etc.)
Where: Pinckney HS - 10255 Dexter-Pinckney Rd, Pinckney, MI 48169 // Meeting at Visitor Gate
What (to wear / bring): Instrument, Flip-Folder of Music (Upperclassmen bring any extra music you have from the past yrs to help with the new members), W/E your instrument may need (extra reeds, valve oil, etc.) and you MUST wear this seasons' MB shirt (The Who!)
Pep Band is not required - it goes towards your band letter / medals and it is fun. ^.^ You meet Mr.Smigell at the gates at 6:30pm to get in free (for students - parents must pay ~$5 at the admission gate to enter). Mr. Smigell will be at the game the whole time. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Pinckney (ask if you need a ride - Smigell will help you find a ride with another student (don't be afraid to ask)). Be sure to bring home your instrument Friday after school - there will be no way to get into the band room Friday evening (and remember to bring them back to school on Monday). Parents are welcome to cheer on the band / football team.
Uniforms:
Students - please make sure you remove everything from your uniforms (i.e. cell phones, wallets, money, keys, etc.) before you hand them in. This will help with the turn in and will make everyone's hand-in smoother. If you do forget an item, please don't cut in line and return to the back of the line. Thanks!
The HHS Band Program has been invited to substitute for the UofM Hockey Band - and perform in their place for the Saturday, October 22nd Home Game (at Yost Arena, Ann Arbor, MI) vs Michigan Tech.
More information about try outs / practices and the event itself will come soon.

ATTN: MB Seniors (and Parents of MB Seniors)
I am trying to get prepared for the Senior Show. Below is the list from band camp of what Seniors we have in Marching Band. Please look over the list and make sure you are on it / your fellow Senior friends are on it. Sometimes forms aren't filled in all the way (which result in us leaving it blank) - or mistakes happen - which is why I am trying to make sure we have everyone now before the season gets crazier.
If you or someone you know is missing (or spelled wrong) - please email me at hhsbandjade@gmail.com or contact me on Facebook.
Thanks!
