Squad Leader List and Pre Band camp days REVISED!!!!

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone has been having a great summer.  It is almost time to begin Marching Band.  I have to tell you,  I am very VERY excited.

Squad leader day is 8:30am-1pm August 9th (Start in the HHS Band Room for both)  Attendance is mandatory if you wish to be considered for squad leader candidacy.

Newbie day is 8:30am-1pm August 10th.  Attendance is OPTIONAL FOR NEWBIES (although we strongly suggest it simply because it is very helpful) but is MANDATORY FOR SL CANDIDATES.  Everyone should bring their instruments to these days and we suggest you bring a water bottle, sunscreen and comfortable shoes.  We also suggest for the newbies that you wear athletic gear.  In the past we have kids get a little exhausted if they overdress.

As tomorrow is the first of August (holy cow!), You can consider me officially "Back in business".  If you have questions about anything band, please feel free to email me at Smigellj@howellschools.com !!!

GOOOOOO HIGHLANDERS!!!!

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

This is our schedule for the year.  The first home game is at U of M!!!  We will share how to get tickets for that as well.  The home games are mandatory for Marching Band students. If Mr. Smigell decides to do pep band at an away game, those are optional.  For pep band the student has to take their instrument home, have their own transportation to and from the game, then be able to get their instrument back to school by Monday.  For the home games, we always do a tailgate prior to step-off.  Tailgate help from adults is usually needed starting between 4:30-5pm.  I hope this helps if anyone is planning work schedules for the Fall.

Also, make sure to purchase khaki shorts before they are gone from stores.  These are a uniform requirement for those hot days.  They must be past your fingertips in length, per school dress code policy.

The band folks that answer all of your questions are all enjoying various vacations.  If you have questions, and have FaceBook, pop on over to Howell HS Band FaceBook page and ask away.  If you don’t, feel free to email christynemacdermaid@gmail.com and I’ll answer ASAP.  No question is a bother, or silly, especially when you are new to the program!!!

8-25-18 HOME vs. Fordson HS (U of M) 4:30pm We will post student’s report time to the school in August.

8-30-18 HOME vs. Plymouth HS 7pm

9-7-18 AWAY vs. Northville HS 7pm

9-14-18 AWAY vs. Novi HS 7pm

9-21-18 HOME vs.  Hartland HS 7pm

9-28-18 AWAY vs.  Salem HS 7pm

10-5-18 AWAY vs.  Canton HS 7pm

10-12-18 HOME vs.  Brighton HS 7pm

10-19-18 AWAY vs. Open Date 7pm

Friday, June 01, 2018

Hello Folks,

These are the placements for next year's Howell Bands.

Some things to remember:

1. I posted these on a Friday for a reason.  Let it sit for a weekend, I will happily speak with anyone about their placement on Monday.  The good news is that there is a little bit of wiggle room since each band is smaller. Every situation is different and will be dealt with individually.

2. If you are not on the list it is because
a. You did not audition
b. You told me your were dropping band or taking percussion ensemble.
c. We lost your audition (highly unlikely)

3. DO NOT FREAK OUT. Talk to Smigell first, then freak out if you like.

4. ANY GLOATING OR SALTINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA CAN RESULT IN DISCIPLINE AND/OR LOSS OF PLACEMENT.

Great work everybody. We will have four wonderful talented bands that are going to shine. I can't wait!

-Smigell
