ATTN HHS MB Seniors AND HOCKEY BAND

Hockey Band:

The HHS Band Program has been invited to substitute for the UofM Hockey Band - and perform in their place for the Saturday, October 22nd Home Game (at Yost Arena, Ann Arbor, MI) vs Michigan Tech.

More information about try outs / practices and the event itself will come soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This message is for the HHS MB Seniors.
I know school hasn't started yet - but I would like to get the songs for the Senior Show picked out soon. September is among us - and I got 2 weddings and a trip in Chicago in October (Yes - they are all within the first 3 weeks of October) and our Senior Show is earlier this year than normal too. This means I have to start writing the Senior Show much earlier than in the past to make sure Smigell has it before I am sorta MIA. Plus, the earlier I can get it done, the more games potentially it can be in. :)
Seniors -
Please send an email to me at hhsbandjade@gmail.com with your name and your entry of 1 to 3 songs you want the Seniors to vote on for the Senior Show.
Some websites we use to buy music from:
1) Arrangers' Publishing Company Website / Youtube
2) Hal Leonard Website / Youtube
3) JW Pepper Website
Please provide the link to your entries - so it makes it easier for me to compile the entries into a survey form w/links.
Due date for entries is Sunday, September 4th.
Voting starts on Tuesday, September 6th and ends on Friday, September 9th. A blogpost with the link will be posted. Results will be announced over that weekend.
The first band booster meeting of the school year is this Wednesday, 6:30pm in the high school band room.  All parents that would like to help out please join us.  You'll hear us review the next few months and have a chance to decide how you will be involved in your student's band experience.
Last uniform fitting!!  This Wednesday right after practice, 3:30, for new members with the last name N-Z and anyone else who couldn't make the first 2 dates.  Mrs. MacDermaid still needs help!!  Please contact her at 734-476-0312 if you can be there.  No experience needed.
Uniform fittings for new marching band students A-M, are still happening tomorrow as scheduled!!!  They will be at 10am.  Mr. Smigell did announce this at practice today.  If you need to come earlier, I can make that happen now that there is not practice in the morning.  Please contact Christyne MacDermaid if you need to come in earlier, or you're an adult and can help me out.  I don't have a lot of help tomorrow, but I took the day off for this, so we will get through it.  734-476-0312 I do not mind going in earlier, but please call or text me.
Please see the last 2 posts too!!  They were recent posts I don't want to bury.
Mrs. MacDermaid 😊
Drillbook Next App:
Band Camp will soon be among us - and there is an app for that ;P
Two years ago, I introduced a drill app called "Drillbook Next" to the HHSMB - where I went to the app's website and uploaded the show's drill and students/staff was able to get the app and have the show on their phones / tablets.
I was told by the squad leaders / upperclassmen / staff that downloaded the app that it was amazing - not only did it help out getting coords for any marcher on the field - it showed the formations movement too.
This app is not for free sadly - it is $2.99 - but it is NOT required in order to be in marching band. This is just an option for students who don't like carrying the drill/coords and want to see how everything is (and help out their fellow nearby band mates).  We will still be passing out coordinate papers to each member and we will still be giving all the squad leaders the formation/set packets for the whole show.
Once again - this is NOT required and totally optional. The reason why I am mentioning it now - before band camp - is so students who don't have the app but want it, can buy/download it (especially before the we leave cause cell phones lack signal up @Eagle Village). And to tell the returning students who have the app (and the people who just bought it) - that the show's info / password is:
Organization: Howell
Show: The Who
Author: Jade
Password: Pokemon
(Marching Band related - but just something fun / unrelated to the program that some band students went last year went and loved it so I figured a few students / parents may want to enjoy taking their family too. If anyone enjoys DCI - there is an awesome live theatre event that is happening nationwide. Refund Check Status and More
Hey All!
I hope everyone is having an awesome and safe summer. Band Camp is about a month away - yay!
Here are a few updates and such:
NYC Refund Checks:
Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control, they haven't been sent out. This due to the district upgrading their computers / network right after school got out and the people needed to process / sign the checks being on vacation (because it's summer vacation). We are in the beginnings of them being processed (it's a multistep process due to having the checks coming from the district) but need to wait a few more weeks. Smigell said he will make sure they are sent out asap - but it won't be until closer to the school year has started. No one has been forgotten - we are just at a stand still atm. If your address has changed, feel free to send an email to hhsbandjade@gmail.com. We will let you know when they are sent out.
Everyone else who is getting their refund deposited into their band accounts shall have it done by when school starts also - this includes the few Seniors / parents who want to transfer their funds into their incoming freshmen's siblings' / childs' accounts.
Band Camp:
Band Camp is:
Report Times for Band Camp:
We are still in need of chaperones - both male and female - for band camp. Please contact Laura Allegoet if you are interested at lallegoet@yahoo.com or (586) 214 - 4986.
Post Band Camp - Before School Starts Practices:
Every year, we have practices before school starts - but this year we have a shorter gap between band camp and the first game (which is before school starts - Thursday, August 25th).
*More information about the practices will be announced as we get a little closer to band camp - we are working on it.
SQUAD LEADER LIST! MANDATORY ATTENDANCE AT SL MEETING AND NEWBIE DAY
Hello everyone,
The following is the squad leader list for the 2016-2017 marching band season.  These people are squad leader candidates and may become full squad leaders at the conclusion of band camp.
The squad leader seminar will be held August 11 from 9-2 pm and the newbie day will be held on August 12 from 9-2 PM.  Attendance is mandatory for both in order for you to be a squad leader.  Please email Mr. Smigell (jsmigell@mac.com during the summer) if you have issues.
You were selected for squad leader if you applied and passed the test.  There may be some people left off the list because their name was illegible on the form.  Please contact me if you feel you were left of the list in error.
I am really excited about this year's crop of leaders.  I have a really good feeling that we are going to "raise the bar" in 2016-2017, I hope you are excited too!
NYC Refund Checks:
Good News if you went on the NYC trip - Educational Tours was gracious enough (not the bus company, but the company who planned everything) to refund us a nice sum of money that comes out to somewhere around $25 +/- (give or take a few dollars) a person.
Here is what we are going to do:
- We will be getting in touch with the seniors (and Senior parents) (via the information you gave us in the trip forms) and ask them what they want to do with their money. (Receive the refund or donate to the program.)
- Anyone else still involved with the program (and their parents) will have that money deposited into their child's band account. They can use the money on future trips, music supplies, or lessons (including future band camps). We can refund current members (and their parents) if they want, but we are trying to avoid writing 195 checks. :)
If you have questions or want the check sent to you instead of being deposited (or if you are Senior/Senior parent), email Mr. Smigell / Jade at HHSBandJade@gmail.com (I will be the main one using it - but Smigell will also be using it / checking it - this is keep all the traffic going to one non-busy location and will make it easier to respond back to everyone.). Please email us the address you want us to send the check too - it makes it easier on us to process than having to backtrack all the paperwork from the trip. Thanks!
The due date for all of this is Friday, July 1st. I will let you know when the checks have been sent out - it may take a few weeks.
Thanks!
NYC Refund Checks
Hello Everyone!
Good News if you went on the NYC trip - Educational Tours was gracious enough (not the bus company, but the company who planned everything) to refund us a nice sum of money that comes out to somewhere around $25 +/- (give or take a few dollars).
Here is what we are going to do:
- We will be getting in touch with the seniors (and Senior parents) (via the information you gave us in the trip forms) and ask them what they want to do with their money. (Receive the refund or donate to the program.)
- Anyone else still involved with the program (and their parents) will have that money deposited into their child's band account. They can use the money on future trips, music supplies, or lessons (including future band camps). We can refund current members (and their parents) if they want, but we are trying to avoid writing 195 checks. :)
If you have questions or want the check sent to you instead of being deposited (or if you are Senior/Senior parent), email Mr. Smigell / Jade at HHSBandJade@gmail.com (I will be the main one using it - but Smigell will also be using it / checking it - this is keep all the traffic going to one non-busy location and will make it easier to respond back to everyone.). Please email us the address you want us to send the check too - it makes it easier on us to process than having to backtrack all the paperwork from the trip. Thanks!
I will let you know when the checks have been sent out - it may take a few weeks.
Thanks!
P.S.
Please remember to check the blog frequently throughout the summer - I can't wait to see everyone at Band Camp! :)
Commencement is Over
The Commencement is over and the students are on their way back to HHS. They should be arriving in about 45min - depending on traffic (about 8:05pm).
Thanks!
2016-2017 BAND AND ENSEMBLE PLACEMENTS POSTED HERE (PLEASE READ MEGA POST BELOW TOO)
Hello Everyone,
First of all, the bog post made by Nicole below this one is EQUALLY IMPORTANT, as it contains stuff about the parade and graduation.  Having said that, here are the placements for next year.  Names are in order of audition score.
PLEASE READ THIS FIRST:
#1. If your name is not on there, you either asked to have your name left off, you did not audition, or (0.5% chance) we misplaced your sheet.  Talk to me on tuesday no worries
#2. If you are happy, good for you :)  DON’T GLOAT OR THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES.  If you are not happy, NO PUBLIC SALT, ESPECIALLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
#3. TALK TO ME FIRST IF YOU THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM!!! You know I am resonable, and I will listen to your concerns.  There is a small chance (%0.5 chance) that we may have added your sheet wrong.
#4. If there is a star by your name, you need to talk to me on Tuesday.
#5.  You are all great kids :)
#6. Please do not text or call about this over the weekend.  I’ll talk to everyone who wants to talk either at the parade or on Tuesday
#7. DON'T FREAK OUT
#8. DON'T FREAK OUT.  Everything is ok!
#9 - DON'T FORGET ABOUT THIS MORNING'S BLOGPOST MADE BY JADE.
Have a good weekend!!!
