Not HHS Band related, but band related - and an interesting / educational view of how much work students put into a show (even though they are hardcore about it :) )

ATTN HHS MB Seniors AND HOCKEY BAND

Hockey Band:

The HHS Band Program has been invited to substitute for the UofM Hockey Band - and perform in their place for the Saturday, October 22nd Home Game (at Yost Arena, Ann Arbor, MI) vs Michigan Tech.

More information about try outs / practices and the event itself will come soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This message is for the HHS MB Seniors.
I know school hasn't started yet - but I would like to get the songs for the Senior Show picked out soon. September is among us - and I got 2 weddings and a trip in Chicago in October (Yes - they are all within the first 3 weeks of October) and our Senior Show is earlier this year than normal too. This means I have to start writing the Senior Show much earlier than in the past to make sure Smigell has it before I am sorta MIA. Plus, the earlier I can get it done, the more games potentially it can be in. :)
Seniors -
Please send an email to me at hhsbandjade@gmail.com with your name and your entry of 1 to 3 songs you want the Seniors to vote on for the Senior Show.
Some websites we use to buy music from:
1) Arrangers' Publishing Company Website / Youtube
2) Hal Leonard Website / Youtube
3) JW Pepper Website
Please provide the link to your entries - so it makes it easier for me to compile the entries into a survey form w/links.
Due date for entries is Sunday, September 4th.
Voting starts on Tuesday, September 6th and ends on Friday, September 9th. A blogpost with the link will be posted. Results will be announced over that weekend.
Drillbook Next App:
Band Camp will soon be among us - and there is an app for that ;P
Two years ago, I introduced a drill app called "Drillbook Next" to the HHSMB - where I went to the app's website and uploaded the show's drill and students/staff was able to get the app and have the show on their phones / tablets.
I was told by the squad leaders / upperclassmen / staff that downloaded the app that it was amazing - not only did it help out getting coords for any marcher on the field - it showed the formations movement too.
This app is not for free sadly - it is $2.99 - but it is NOT required in order to be in marching band. This is just an option for students who don't like carrying the drill/coords and want to see how everything is (and help out their fellow nearby band mates).  We will still be passing out coordinate papers to each member and we will still be giving all the squad leaders the formation/set packets for the whole show.
Once again - this is NOT required and totally optional. The reason why I am mentioning it now - before band camp - is so students who don't have the app but want it, can buy/download it (especially before the we leave cause cell phones lack signal up @Eagle Village). And to tell the returning students who have the app (and the people who just bought it) - that the show's info / password is:
Organization: Howell
Show: The Who
Author: Jade
Password: Pokemon
Remember to drink lots of water and try to get use to being outside / active for when band camp is here!
(Marching Band related - but just something fun / unrelated to the program that some band students went last year went and loved it so I figured a few students / parents may want to enjoy taking their family too. If anyone enjoys DCI - there is an awesome live theatre event that is happening nationwide. The 2016 DCI Quarter-Finals is going to be aired live in certain cinemas for one night - Thurs, August 11th. For more information on this event / to buy tickets - DCI '16 Quarter-Finals: Big, Loud & Live )
I will make a post with the DrillBook Next App info for this Season's Main Show later this week - but other than that, have fun and be safe (Especially if you are playing Poke'mon Go :) )
Refund Check Status and More
Hey All!
I hope everyone is having an awesome and safe summer. Band Camp is about a month away - yay!
Here are a few updates and such:
NYC Refund Checks:
Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control, they haven't been sent out. This due to the district upgrading their computers / network right after school got out and the people needed to process / sign the checks being on vacation (because it's summer vacation). We are in the beginnings of them being processed (it's a multistep process due to having the checks coming from the district) but need to wait a few more weeks. Smigell said he will make sure they are sent out asap - but it won't be until closer to the school year has started. No one has been forgotten - we are just at a stand still atm. If your address has changed, feel free to send an email to hhsbandjade@gmail.com. We will let you know when they are sent out.
Everyone else who is getting their refund deposited into their band accounts shall have it done by when school starts also - this includes the few Seniors / parents who want to transfer their funds into their incoming freshmen's siblings' / childs' accounts.
Band Camp:
We are still in need of chaperones - both male and female - for band camp. Please contact Laura Allegoet if you are interested at lallegoet@yahoo.com or (586) 214 - 4986.
Post Band Camp - Before School Starts Practices:
Every year, we have practices before school starts - but this year we have a shorter gap between band camp and the first game (which is before school starts - Thursday, August 25th).
*More information about the practices will be announced as we get a little closer to band camp - we are working on it.
SQUAD LEADER LIST! MANDATORY ATTENDANCE AT SL MEETING AND NEWBIE DAY
Hello everyone,
The following is the squad leader list for the 2016-2017 marching band season.  These people are squad leader candidates and may become full squad leaders at the conclusion of band camp.
The squad leader seminar will be held August 11 from 9-2 pm and the newbie day will be held on August 12 from 9-2 PM.  Attendance is mandatory for both in order for you to be a squad leader.  Please email Mr. Smigell (jsmigell@mac.com during the summer) if you have issues.
You were selected for squad leader if you applied and passed the test.  There may be some people left off the list because their name was illegible on the form.  Please contact me if you feel you were left of the list in error.
I am really excited about this year's crop of leaders.  I have a really good feeling that we are going to "raise the bar" in 2016-2017, I hope you are excited too!
